Doug Walter Receives Mayor's Design Award

The seamless addition to this 1908 historic home.

On November 13th, Mayor Michael B. Hancock awarded 15 projects for excellence in architecture, design, and place-making at the 2014 Mayor's Design Awards. Since 2005, awards have been presented to Denver homeowners, business owners, nonprofits, artists, and others for their creative contributions to the public realm through innovative designs. Winners range from public street art to adaptive reuse of historic structures to tactical urbanism to new community gathering places. "This year's winning projects are great examples of what makes Denver a unique and vibrant city," Mayor Hancock said.

Doug Walter won this prestigious award for his work on the Pellicore Residence, a 1908 Dutch Colonial Revival, in Denver's Country Club Historical District. The homeowners wanted to add a respectful addition while at the same time repairing some exterior elements that detracted from the home's character. To the casual passerby, the seamless addition honors and enhances the original design of this historic home.
